The ATEF is the non-profit arm of the ATA and focused on junior player development through professional training.
The ATA and ATEF has a long and rewarding history of working together for a common goal to create opportunities for youth and tennis. Both organization's mission and vision statements speak to the importance of youth tennis and education. We know that working to advance that cause, benefits both organizations and that pooling our resources adds value to what we can accomplish in partnership. We hope that you will join our partnership as we work to make a dream come true of a National tennis site.
Through experiences derived from playing competitive, we strive to help players mature as people and will encourage the development of important life skills such as good sportsmanship, teamwork, goal setting, and fair play. Our primary focus is to equip our youth with the skills to play professionally or on a collegiate level.
Serving youth is at the very heart of what we do at ATEF.
For more than 50 years, the ATEF has made it our mission to work with the American Tennis Association (ATA) to develop junior and adult players. Many professional African American players came through ATA Clubs and Junior Development programs.
But our work is far from done. We have, after 100 years, embarked on the largest development of both organization’s history – the development of the ATA/ATEF National Training Center and ATA Tennis Hall of Fame.
The rich and colorful history of the ATA spreads for more than a century. Throughout the years, their mission has not waivered – to promote the sport of tennis to people of all colors and provide an outlet for them to play when African Americans were not allowed to play in the United States Lawn Tennis Association tournaments.
One Hundred and Two years later, the mission of the ATA still is a primary tenet of the organization and it’s motto: Sportsmanship, Unity and Goodwill continues to guide its Member Clubs and general membership.
Part of the new development will be an ATA Tennis Hall of fame, where we can house the rich history of this organization and ensure that our youth and all visitors to the National Training Facility will have the opportunity to learn about the pioneers who paved the way for us to get to this point today!
